Plumber quote template for UK plumbing work
Split a plumbing quote into the system you found, the fittings with make and model, the labour, and the builder's work around the pipes. A boiler price folded into one visit figure is awkward to revise when the customer changes the appliance.
Practical notes for a UK plumber writing a quote. Not legal or tax advice.
Price the installation the customer will be left with. A boiler swap, a bathroom, and a leak that has turned into pipework all need four blocks: what is there now, the fittings, the labour, and the building work around the pipes. The UK quote template holds your details and the customer's, and these sections are what you write in the lines.
State the system you are pricing
Write what you saw. A combi, a system boiler with a cylinder, or a vented tank are different jobs, and the quote should name which one this is. Note where the appliance sits, and the flue or condensate route you have allowed for. If you are assuming the existing gas, water, and electrics at the appliance are suitable to reuse, put that assumption in one sentence. If a later test shows they are not suitable, the quote already records what you assumed.
Fittings on their own lines
Put each major fitting on its own line with the manufacturer and model, or with the words "customer to supply" when they are buying it. The price of a boiler, a cylinder, a shower valve, or a set of taps moves when the model changes. A line called "bathroom" cannot show that change.
- Boiler or cylinder, make and model
- Flue kit matched to that model and to the route
- Filter, thermostat, and controls, each named
- Radiators or towel rails, with the size
- Sanitaryware and taps, or a note that the customer supplies them
- Pipe, valves, and fixings, described as a measured lot or as a named allowance
Labour, separate from the fitting
Labour is its own block: isolate and drain down, remove the old fitting, install, fill, and commission. Keep it off the supply line, so a change of boiler model changes the supply number and leaves the labour number where it is.
- Powerflush, or a sentence in the exclusions if you are not doing one
- A condensate pump, if the route rises
- Pipe length past the lot you allowed in the fittings section
- Removal of the old appliance from site, and who keeps it
Builder's work, in or out
Chasing, boxing in, lifting floors, and making good plaster and decoration are building work. Price them or exclude them. If the quote never mentions them, the customer has nothing in writing to check.
On a larger build, name the builder's quote this plumbing sits beside, and say which of that work you are leaving to the builder. Preliminaries, stages, and allowances stay on that quote.
A new circuit for a shower or a boiler is electrical work. Put it on an electrician's quote unless you have priced it here, in its own lines.
A worked example: combi boiler replacement
Example figures for layout only. The job in this layout is a combi in a kitchen cupboard, with a flue through the wall. The old boiler comes out as part of the job. Hot and cold supplies stay where they are. Check that each example line total is the example unit price times the quantity.
| Section | Line | Qty | Unit | Example unit price | Example line total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supply | Combi boiler, 30 kW, with a horizontal wall flue kit. Make and model named on the quote | 1 | each | £1,150 | £1,150 |
| Supply | Magnetic filter | 1 | each | £145 | £145 |
| Supply | Programmable room thermostat | 1 | each | £95 | £95 |
| Labour | Isolate, drain down, remove the old boiler, hang and connect the new one, fill and commission | 1 | visit | £780 | £780 |
| Labour | Powerflush | 1 | item | £420 | £420 |
| Waste | Remove the old boiler from site | 1 | item | £45 | £45 |
| Example net total, layout only | £2,635 | ||||
Example net total, layout only: £2,635. This table does not add VAT. In Quotebefore, VAT is calculated on the net total.
The boiler line carries the flue kit. A longer flue is a new line. Exclusions on this example: boxing in the pipes, decorating the cupboard, moving the gas meter, and a condensate pump. If the condensate has to rise, add a pump line before you send the quote.
Checklist before you send a plumber's quote
- What is installed now, and the assumption you priced on
- Make and model of each major fitting, or "customer to supply"
- Flue or waste route in one sentence
- Labour on its own lines: isolate, remove, install, fill, commission
- Powerflush and condensate pump either priced or excluded
- Old appliance: removed or left, and who keeps it
- Builder's work (chase, box in, make good, decorate) priced or excluded
- Any figure that still depends on a measurement, named as an allowance
Write the quote in Quotebefore
In Quotebefore, the UK PDF says Quote. The currency follows the shop country, so a UK shop is in GBP. VAT is calculated on the net total. Quotes are valid for 30 days by default, and that date can be edited. The PDF prints the VAT number, the company number and the address when those fields are filled in. Speech recognition runs on the device. No account is needed. The first 3 quotes are free, with no watermark. The app reminds you on working days 3, 7 and 12 after the quote is sent, then stops.
